Metal Gear Solid V: Every Piece Of Cut Content You Need To See

10. The True Downfall Of Big Boss (Part 2 - Quarantining His Best Men)

Metal Gear Solid Phantom Pain 5
Konami

One of the only standout missions in MGS V in terms of being a €˜set-piece€™ everyone took part in - as oppose to a dynamic event you brought about yourself - is Mission 43, €˜Shining Lights, Even in Death€™. It sees Boss forced to kill his own men, one by one, to stop the spread of a parasiticinfection.

This setupdid succeed in eliciting a strong reaction when you had to gun down saluting soldiers, but more unearthed audio files give away that we - as players - were first supposed to quarantine our own men in the first place, not simply trigger such adark scenario almostout of nowhere.

In the above playlist you can hear a couple of discarded lines (File 357 and 358) where Boss was once issuing commands to his soldiers, literally quarantining them one by one. This does happen in the game in the form of a very short-lived menu where you allocate your troops into a different list, but these files pertain to the idea you'd actually have to search Mother Base, interact with them one-by-one and quarantine/condemn them individually.

This would've had a far bigger impact when it then came to killing them, recognisingcertain faces as you becamejudge, jury and executioner. It makes the most sense that this would then factor into the shots of Boss with a bloodied face as his former troops burned behind him; a very powerful image that's replaced in the game with an ash-covered Venom monologuing in a serious tone about people hebarely knew.
