Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain - 12 Crucial Tips & Tricks You Need To Know

10. Make Guards Surrender To Fully Immobilise Them

Being Big Boss, you're attempting to unite the world's separatist private military forces under one roof or one ideology; that fighting for you is better than any one nation or sovereignty. As such, it doesn't send the right message if you're blowing soldiers' helmets off left, right and centre, stabbing them or lobbing them off cliffs. Instead, as you might have noticed when performing a hold-up move (aiming your gun at someone from behind or when they're awake on the ground), your 'Heroism' stat will go up. This is essentially the best way to role-play the game as the Big Boss that later becomes the legend of the battlefield. Performing the right trigger/analogue stick takedowns, firing rubber bullets or doing anything that brings about the 'STN' (stun) state will actually last longer than putting guys to sleep too (the opposite of all the other games in the series), but making them surrender puts them in an immobile state they'll only snap out of if another guard comes into contact, or you trigger a full alert. Lastly, don't think that means you have to hold everyone up from behind. Instead, do your usual thing of interrogating or performing takedowns, then when a guard's down, hit the right trigger to kick and wake them up. From there, hold the left trigger and Snake will command them to stay down, putting them in this indefinite safe-state.
