10. Happy Birthday To Snake! (And To You!)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9EyEwlgVUQ At the beginning of the game, the player is asked to fill out their name and date of birth ahead of Big Boss' planned plastic surgery session (before it's rudely interrupted by Quiet), and if your birthday happens to fall on a day that you're playing the game, you'll be told to return to Mother Base immediately and be greeted by a hilariously surreal sight. Alarms will be sounding, the base appears deserted and gunfire can be heard, causing Boss to pull his gun. However, it soon transpires that the gunshot sounds are in fact fireworks, and the entire base has banded together to sing you happy birthday, not just Miller, Ocelot and the soldiers, but even Code Talker, as a cake is wheeled out for good measure. Everyone has a laugh, Snake cracks perhaps his only smile of the entire game, and as he goes to light a cigar with one of the candles, Kaz takes it away from him. Snake then blows out the candles and everyone gives him a round of applause. It's a very welcome moment of levity in a largely grim game, and simply the sort of genius detail almost all other developers wouldn't ever think about.
