What Might Happen In The Games
This is just some speculation based entirely on rumors, the information that we've got and Metal Gear's timeline. Feel free to give your thoughts about it on the comments, maybe I missed something important. However, here's my thoughts on what's going to happen in the game, and why. First of all, we'll see how MSF becomes a feared group of mercenaries. Like they said, "We're an army without a country," and something like that would be very dangerous in the world, especially if they have access to nuclear weapons. That's when XOF comes in, for whatever reason, the leader of XOF (the guy with the burned face) has only one objective: The Death of Big Boss. So, in order to achieve his mission he'll use Chico to have a spy on Mother Base, and maybe, someone who will destroy the company from the inside. Since this is going to be an open world game, most likely the story will unfold within 2-3 weeks, with MSF expanding and completing different missions, while Big Boss slowly uncovers XOF's plan to destroy him, only that it would be too late when he realizes Chico's actions. By then, Motherbase will be destroyed and he'll be in a 9 year coma. Flash forward to 9 years later, while trying to finish what they started, XOF launches an attack at the hospital where Big Boss is recovering. He'll escape in time along with other members of the organization and, with the help of Ocelot they'll start another base in Africa under the name of Outer Heaven. The Phantom Pain will deal with Big Boss trying to fulfill The Boss' vision of the world wile fighting an unknown enemy (XOF) and, we most likely we'll see how he joins the military again, founds Fox Hound and meets with his son: Solid Snake.
Like I've said, this is purely speculation, I'm most likely wrong, but the whole point of this article was basically to speculate about the upcoming games, to show what we already know about the game and imagine what kind of twists and turns Hideo Kojima will have planned for us. But, before I conclude the article there's one thing that has been on everybody's mouth after the release of the trailer.
David Hayter Won't Be Voicing Big Boss
It was a huge shock to find out that David Hayter, the man who has been the voice of both Solid Snake and Big Boss for more than 10 years won't come back to do the voice of one of the most iconic characters in the history of videogames. The reaction was, as you would expect, very negative. People have said things that range from the understandable anger (It won't be the same without David Hayter, he gave the character a great trait and his replacement will have big shoes to fill in) to complete, nonsensical madness (F*CK THIS STUPID S*IT, IF HAYTER ISN'T IN THE GAME I WON'T BUY THIS CRAP) and it is completely understandable. According to Hayter, he wasn't even called to reprise the role. He was occupied in Toronto with the filming of his first movie when he found out that the recordings for the game were already taking place, and when he contacted one of the people in charge of the project they just told him that we won't be needed for this one, without further explanations. I have to say, that is a pretty bad way to inform a man who played the same role for 15 years that he won't do it again. Kojima explained that since this is going to be a completely new type of game, they wanted to reflect that on the new voice actor.
Here comes the interesting part though, Kojima said that they won't reveal who will do the voice for Big Boss in the game yet. That makes you wonder if they aren't pulling one of the biggest pranks in the history of the media. But, with all seriousness, I loved Hayter as Snake, and I will really miss him in this game, however, that doesn't mean that he will never play the role again. From what I understand they just told him that he won't be needed on this one. That's it. And in a way it makes sense, in this games Snake will be really old, he can't have the same young voice forever. To whoever is replacing him, if you read this, I wish you all the luck in the world, you have big shoes to fill, but from what I've heard in the trailers, you're doing a great job. And for those who are seriously considering not buying the game because of that, it won't affect the plot, and it won't affect the character. I know it's going to be hard to hear a different voice on a character that most of us grew up with, but this was something that you could see coming since Guns of the Patriots (remember that in the game Big Boss was portrayed by a different actor) so you should give this guy a chance. And besides, David Hayter might come back someday in the future, maybe if Solid Snake makes a quick cameo in the game. We can only hope.
