Another navigation tip: Get used to factoring the map into exploration constantly. You can tap left on the D-pad to bring up a bigger in-game version, and ostensibly you want to make a mental note of which doors or exits are blocked.

Either use the colour-coded markers provided on the map screen, use the old-school graph paper method or keep it in mind yourself. The fact is: There is always one or two defined paths the game is pushing you towards, and if you’re hitting an obstacle, it’s a direct indication to discard that path for now.
