Metroid Dread Review: 7 Ups & 2 Downs
5. UP: Every Boss Is Fantastic
There are certain things we expect from each Metroid game. The Chozo. Ridley. Space Pirates. The Morph Ball. But another element that's integral to the franchise is the bosses.
And Metroid fans don't want run-of-the-mill bosses. We're talking about screen-filling enemies with half a dozen strategies and multiple phases. Although not every boss in a game can stand out, Metroid Dread comes pretty close. With this batch of baddies, Samus needs to use every thing in her arsenal to take them down. Interestingly, there is more than one way to defeat certain bosses, urging the player to try different strategies to eliminate their foe.
Although each boss is drastically different, they all share certain similarities - they are all outrageously tough and require an astounding level of skill, precision, and timing to vanquish. On top of that, Metroid Dread must be commended for accomplishing something nearly impossible - it has an underwater boss that isn't rubbish!
Even though you're guaranteed to die at least ten times while facing this lot, you won't mind since each of the battles is imaginative and epic.
