2. UP: The EMMIs

Metroid Fusion may have been an all-round solid game but the element that players remember most is how Samus was constantly pursued by her clone, SA-X.

Metroid producer, Yoshio Sakamoto, loved the idea of the player being hunted so much, he insisted it played a bigger part in Metroid Dread. This concept evolved into Dread's most terrifying enemies - the EMMIs. These robots can follow Samus through doors, lock hatches so you can't escape, fit through tiny tunnels, freeze you to the ground, and stun you with electricity. If they get hold of you, there's a very good chance you'll perish then and there.

Not only do the EMMIs make the gameplay more intense, they force the player to change their entire approach. You can't just stand there and plan out your route when one of these droids approaches. Since these murderous robots are constantly nipping at your heels, you're forced to strategise faster, constantly readjusting your tactics to avoid a quick death. Although the EMMIs can be annoying, the game is inarguably better with them and it's SO satisfying when you do eventually kill them.
