8. Take Control Of Your Ship

It's been over thirty years, so the timing on this one feels about right.

It's time we got to take the intrepid space explorer for a spin in her vessel.

If the game's setting, which is space for you noobs, is going to be big, which it should because it's space, then we need something that gets us about lickety split.

And this opens up a lot of potential game play wise.

Obviously there's the chance for random encounters with enemy ships which lead to dog fights ala Star Fox but more importantly, though, this feels like the natural evolutionary step, given the franchise's emphasis on exploration.

Imagine travelling between two different planets in order to complete an objective but on the way you come across a stranded vessel or wrecked space station and choose to investigate that instead and you find: Loot, upgrades, people in danger, monsters, etc the list goes on.

Suddenly you're playing the game in a different way to everyone else and all because you can pilot the ship.
