Microsoft & Bethesda E3 2021 Showcase: 8 Ups & 4 Downs

Microsoft continues to go all-in on Xbox Game Pass.

Halo Infinite
343 Industries

By far the most eagerly anticipated E3 showcase this year was the Microsoft-Bethesda event, an epic two-in-one presentation and the first since Microsoft completed their acquisition of Bethesda's parent company, ZeniMax Media, earlier this year.

After a glut of lackluster E3 showings from the likes of Ubisoft, Gearbox, and worst of all Koch Media, hopes were high that Microsoft would come bounding in to save the day, and thankfully that's exactly what they did.

Though this year's showcase wasn't a megaton-filled Year of Dreams for Microsoft, it was sensibly all about the games and in turn continued to build an incredibly persuasive case for Xbox Game Pass as a must-have subscription service.

Microsoft also confirmed the awe-inspiring value of owning Bethesda, which should ensure the frustrating exclusives-drought of the last generation isn't in any way an issue this time around.

It wasn't a perfect showcase by any means, but Microsoft nevertheless came out swinging and proved once again that they're going to be an ultra-competitive force-of-nature this generation. Whatever configuration of consoles you own right now, you're in great hands...
