The main mode that people play is Survival and for good reason. It takes on the challenge that Creative doesn't do. You can set the difficulty from "Easy" to "Hardcore", with Hardcore pretty much having you just stay in your fortified bunker hoping a creeper doesn't blow you up. This is where the actual game comes into Minecraft. You must try to survive and build an even better shelter each day so that you don't get killed at night.

In Minecraft, you can literally not find the edge of the world, the game just gets buggier and buggier then you will find very weird things that should not spawn in the world, it can take a couple of hours to reach this point though. If you get bored with your very impressive shelter, you can pack what you want in your inventory and just set off in one direction. That's what makes this game amazing, you don't need a new world just the span of walking to a new destination.
