MODERN WARFARE 3 Makes $400 Million in Just 24 Hours

Activision claim Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 shipped an astonishing 6.5 million copies in just 24 hours, making it officially the biggest entertainment launch in history. That results in $400 million in sales from just one day (results courtesy of ChartTrack). That beats out any box office gross, any CD sales, book sales or any other video game title sales in history over 24 hours including Black Ops by $40 million and Modern Warfare 2 by $90 million, the now second and third best-selling one day releases. With those kind of totals, no wonder every other industry is jealous of the gaming industry right now. As Activision CEO Bobby Kotick says and not trying to disguise his glee;
"Life-to-date sales for the Call of Duty franchise exceed worldwide theatrical box office for "Star Wars" and "Lord of the Rings," two of the most successful entertainment franchises of all time."
Scarily, the $400 million doesn't take into consideration the European, Australian or rest of the globe sales. As far as the critical reaction goes, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has picked up very high scores by most outlets (usually 9.0 or above) but as we've said this week has suffered something of a backlash from fans that has seen the player's scoring drop to a bafflingly low 1.7 rating. WhatCulture!'s review of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is coming very soon... around the time our Gaming Editor Simon Gallagher can be persuaded to put down the controller anyway!
