Monster Hunter World: Ranking Every Weapon From Worst To Best

2. Light Bowgun

Capcom

Pros: Mobile, high fire rate, large variety of ammo...

Cons: ... that must be crafted, low damage, no block, recoil

Small, fast-firing and packed with enough specialized tools to rival a Swiss Army Knife, World's Light Bowgun is the quintessential ranged weapon that excels in the support role. With status-inflicting ammo types out the wazoo and a unique ability (Wyvernblast) that compensates for an otherwise low damage output, it doesn't take a genius to discern why the Heavy Bowgun's easier-to-handle variant comes out on top - there's simply no beating its utility.

Material farming and inventory management are the two mightiest hurdles that wielders of the firearm will have to deal with - should supplies for any in-demand ammo type be exhausted, combat efficiency will suffer as a result - but proper use of Astera's garden should alleviate those burdens to an extent.

Besides that, each ammo type has an optimum fire range dictating how much damage each does at different distances, some of which will force you into close-quarters combat, but as always, knowing your enemy will make the built-in weakness a near non-issue.

Practice makes perfect.
