2. The Joker
Mortal Kombat 1 has an ingenious way to hide its loading times. While the match loads up, the kombatants will perform a Clash Intro, where they stare each other down and trade barbs.
If the same character is chosen, the fighter will face off against their counterpart from another timeline, which offers some interesting insight about these parallel realities. If both players choose Smoke, the alternate one mentions his parents were murdered by Jarek. In alternate Kenshi's reality, Kano is the Keeper of Time, (despite being the most under-qualified person for the job).
However, one of the most fascinating details revealed during these Clash Intros is when Liu Kang interacts with his double.
Just before the fight, Liu Kang may ask his counterpart, "What happened to your Kitana?" The other Liu Kang answers with, "An evil clown tricked me into taking her life".
Anyone who's played Injustice: Gods Among Us will know this is a reference to how the Joker manipulated Superman into murdering Lois Lane. Although it's a nice Easter egg, it's tragic to hear the same fate befell this incarnation of Liu Kang.
