In the original timeline, Hanzo Hasashi (Scorpion) killed Bi-Han (Sub-Zero), under the false impression the Lin Kuei warrior slaughtered his family. After Bi-Han's brother, Kuai Liang took the mantle of Sub-Zero, he swore vengeance on Scorpion.

Though the pair's destinies are still intertwined in Mortal Kombat 1, their relationship is drastically different. In the new timeline, Scorpion is Kuai Liang and Sub-Zero is Bi-Han. Despite being brothers, it's clear from the get-go there's bad blood between them.

Of course, this change left fans with one big question - "Does the original Scorpion, Hanzo Hasashi exist in this timeline?"

The answer is "Yes". In Smoke's ending, we see the grey-robed ninja and Scorpion setting up their own clan: The Shirai Ryu.

After a chance encounter with a boy called Hanzo Hasashi, Smoke decides to take him in, making him the clan's first recruit. This ending is sure to leave fans beaming, as it suggests Hanzo Hasashi could be reincorporated in the future.
