Mortal Kombat 11: 8 New Gameplay Features You Need To Know

3. Flawless Block

Now here's a cute blast from fighting games past. As detailed by Ed Boon during its reveal, Mortal Kombat 11 introduces a new 'Flawless Block' system into the mix to provide more combat variety, though if you're a genre veteran, his description will sound awfully familiar. Similarly to Street Fighter III's parry system, performing a block at the same moment an attack would otherwise connect will interrupt an opponent's combo and open them up to a devastating counterattack.

Historically, similar systems have been responsible for drawing a line between casual and hardcore players, and NetherRealm will need to get the balance as close to perfect as possible to prevent that. Make parrying too easy and it'll interrupt the flow of battle; too hard, and it'll turn off infrequent players looking for an hour or two of gore-filled entertainment.
