Mortal Kombat 12: 10 Things Fans NEED To See
1. A More Varied Roster At Launch
In MKX, 9 of the 24 characters shared mercenary traits, over a whole 3rd of the roster. In MK11, it seems they went even more overboard to ensure characters were all melee-based humans to limit the number of powers you can play around with.
The franchise has a massive amount of races, numerous characters with unique powers, and instead, we get saddled with the Cage family and friends who all use mercenary-based fighting styles. It doesn't help that everyone has so many special moves it scalps the uniqueness of each fighter even further.
Rain let players utilize water-based attacks, Fujin wind, and Reptile brought acid to the table. In MK11 characters are so overburdened with powerful attacks it waters down the appeal. Cetrion literally has about 5 different powers, but all within her move-set, rather than spread across more individuals.
Mortal Kombat could give players one of the most varied rosters on the market with multiple races from different realms bringing a distinct flair to the table. Hell, even Ferra/Torr despite being humanoid, at least had the symbiotic gimmick that offered a welcome playstyle for fans to play around with.
There are a plethora of post-MK4 characters the studio can bring back and revamp to add some needed variety to the mix. It's time to stop teasing characters in the story mode as NPC's or locking them behind DLC, and let us run wild with fighting styles and the visual additions they can bring.
