Mortal Kombat 12: 10 Things Fans NEED To See

7. A Return To Deception's Konquest Mode

Mortal Kombat's story modes are miles ahead of the competition, but it's no secret that the fight-cutscene-fight cycle offers very little replay value.

It's like watching a slightly long movie. After 4 hours you finish it and you've seen everything it has to offer. There's not much reason to return beyond a couple of sections you can play through as a different character, and a single choice at the end to get a different ending.

Armageddon has a solid 3rd person beat-em-up Konquest mode, but it was nothing on the most epic extra mode gaming has ever offered.

Deception's Konquest mode was a MK fan's dream - a 3rd person RPG where players went on a life-long journey across multiple realms. Every single character from the universe could be found hidden somewhere as you went wherever you wanted, with countless secrets to find and side-quests to complete.

It took a hit in the visual department, but considering this was a game with chess kombat, Puzzle Kombat and the base fighting game too, this was still an impressive accomplishment.

With current technology, this sort of mode could be revolutionary for fighting games. Players could journey through all the unique worlds MK has to offer and can interact with them, and the characters that inhabit them, in ways never experienced before.
