In MK: Deadly Alliance, some fans were confused by Cyrax's combo, Mustard, and Sektor's combo, Ketchup. What kind of name is that for a combo?

At first, you would assume the name is a reference to each cyborg's colour; Cyrax is yellow (mustard) and Sektor is red (ketchup). But the meaning behind these names goes all the way back to Mortal Kombat 3.

When MK3 was being made, the developers couldn't think of a name for the yellow and red cyborgs and so, called them Mustard and Ketchup respectively. Their names were so last-minute, the names "Mustard" and "Ketchup" were coded into the game!

Cyrax and Sektor weren't the only characters that had a name change. Kabal was meant to be Sandman, Sub-Zero was Tundra, Kitana was Kitsune, and Sindel was Muchaha.

Liu Kang was called Minamoto Yo Shin Soo but was changed because John Tobias "couldn't deal with the name". Jax was called Kurtis Stryker and was meant to appear in the original game but was swapped out for Sonya. The name, Kurtis Stryker, was repurposed for a police officer in MK3.
