Mortal Kombat 30th Anniversary: 10 Greatest Story Moments Ever
7. Sindel's Massacre - Mortal Kombat (2011)
Sindel was the Queen of Edenia but when her realm fell to Outworld, her husband was murdered and her daughter, Kitana, was taken in by Shao Kahn. Rather than become his consort, she killed herself in defiance of the emperor. In the 2011 reboot of Mortal Kombat, her resurrection plays out like in the third game but with some key alterations.
Here, Quan Chi is the one who resurrects Sindel rather than Shang Tsung. Through Raiden's knowledge of the past, he kills Motaro to save Johnny Cage but this act leaves Shao Kahn without a general.
This forces the emperor to transfer Shang Tsung's consciousness, as well as the thousands of souls inside him, into Sindel which imbues her with unlimited power.
In one of the game's most shocking sequences, the newly-powered Sindel ambushes the forces of light and wipes them out without breaking a sweat. This leads to the deaths of Jade, Stryker, Kabal, Sub Zero, Smoke, and Jax, while mortally wounding Kitana.
Though Nightwolf defeats her through a suicide tactic, her actions leave the Earth nearly defenseless. In one fell swoop, Sindel manages to wipe out most of the game's heroes and causes Liu Kang to finally lose faith in Raiden.
