Mortal Kombat X: 10 Huge Problems Nobody Wants To Admit

7. Unplayable Story Characters Are Just Weird

Each year we get a new 'villain' in the games industry, and following EA and Ubisoft's attempts to cash-grab their way through otherwise fantastic franchises with Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed respectively, it's over to Warner Bros. in 2015 to pilfer the likes of MK and Batman: Arkham Knight into oblivion. Case in point is series veteran characters like Baraka are seen to be fully fleshed out in the story mode (you fight against him multiple times) yet are nowhere to be seen in the main roster. PC modders have already figured out a way to unlock his code on their side, somewhat proving that he's going to be included as DLC or something else later down the line, and that just doesn't sit well with those who have been with the series since the beginning. We're right in the middle of a paradigm shift for gaming, as publishers and developers alike are testing the waters for what they can get away with in terms of business-first, consumer-second deals. Ed Boon has already mentioned a 'Story Pack' on Twitter as a response to a fan asking about these characters, and whether or not this comes into play as a paid extra will be confirmation that things are going a little too sour on the part of the consumer.
