NBA 2K16: 6 Things Spike Lee's Involvement Tells Us
6. It Will Lose A Sense Of Realism
Spike has reportedly shot the equivalent of 12 hours of in-game narrative, or thereabouts, a storyline which has been advertised as a tale charting the struggles of fame. Money, expectations, betrayal and temptation are all likely to be key themes, especially given Lee's extensive history of gritty, often dark subject matter. This sounds promising on the surface, sure to inject a new sense of excitement and drama into MyCareer mode, but too melodramatic a narrative could severely hamper 2K's realism. Many video game franchises attempt to mimic the visceral adrenaline and emotional intensity movies can provide (such as the Grand Theft Auto and Uncharted series), but sports games have traditionally rooted themselves in solid realism. This is undoubtedly a step into the great beyond for what is essentially a basketball simulating franchise, a move their core fanbase could react very negatively to.
