Should 2K's gamble come off, they could well change the face of sports gaming forever. In an era in which narrative has become more important to gaming than ever before, sporting sims have always naturally lagged behind. NBA 2K16 could well bring its genre up to speed thanks to Lee's expertise, but is such innovation an area sports games should even want to tread? On the whole, people don't buy games such as FIFA and Madden for an exciting storyline; prime factors are gameplay, realism and multiplayer capabilities. Even if 2K strike gold with this new formula, such a drastic re-prioritising is perhaps not what the franchise needs. Time will tell, though, and 2K Sports should for now be applauded for their ambition.
