The NBA 2K series has drawn consistently positive reviews on the back of its three core game modes: MyCareer, franchise mode (or "MyGM"), and the online MyTeam squad builder. The recent addition of the ultra-customisable MyLeague mode drew praise for its ability to tweak (or wholly restructure) the NBA in any way gamers wished, but it's hard to shake the feeling that it may just be a more fully-developed cousin of MyGM. The dominance of these current modes, and the obvious time and effort spent investing in them, has caused several beloved old favourites to fall by the wayside, and seen a general lack of originality with regards to historical or classic gameplay. Although each individual mode becomes increasingly polished and expansive with each new instalment, it's fair to say that the franchise isn't quite as varied previously has been. Director Spike Lee's involvement, and the revelation of a new 'Be The Story' tagline, seems to indicate that MyCareer mode is set for even further attention and development. While this is certainly promising, there are other potential game modes which deserve just as much consideration.
