NBA 2K17 Hands-On Review: 10 Things You Need To Know
9. Tactically, The AI Is Smarter Than Ever
This one's bad news for those who enjoy dominating the CPU with the same tactic over and over, but good news overall. The opposition AI in 2K17 is smarter than ever, with teams making adjustments mid-game (and even mid-season) to cover matchup deficiencies and atone for previous errors.
Sometimes, if your team's strengths are overly apparent, you'll have to react immediately. Playing as the Cleveland Cavaliers, I engineered a pick and roll in the first quarter, intending to clear a lane to the hoop for LeBron James.
The King was immediately swamped by a double team the moment he received the ball, the CPU having recognised my (incredibly obvious) plan ahead of time. Had I tried this later in the game, where elements such as fatigue come into play, he may well have found an opening.
It's a tricky balance to achieve, but one 2K17 seems to have nailed.
