NBA 2K20 Review: 5 Ups & 4 Downs

2. MyTEAM Remains A Mess

2K Sports attracted earned criticism for their NBA 2K20 MyTEAM reveal trailer, which gave the impression they were trying to flog a Vega's-based gambling simulator rather than a basketball game. All bright lights, slot machines, and roulette wheels, it was a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the foot of a team that has already attracted mass criticism for their monetisation tactics.

Said trailer was, unfortunately, an accurate reflection of MyTEAM. Though 2K have tried to shorten the gap between those willing to pay to win and those who aren't, it's still a deeply predator game mode through which success is only attainable by pulling out your credit card, or indulging in a long, unrewarding grind. It's calibrated to satisfy gambling addictions, not provide a fun gaming experience.

Even the free Ball Drop feature is lacking, with the mechanics slower than ever, and the worst part is that 2K aren't even attempting to hide the sleazy casino vibe.
