NBA Live 18 Hands-On: 7 Things We Learned
5. 'The One' Seems Fun
Your player is known as The Comeback Kid, but you learn about that nickname only after he... makes a comeback, from a presumably career-ending injury. This doesn't make a lot of sense, however, it's the only confusing moment during The Rise.
A torn ACL, sprained MCL and a torn meniscus have put an end to many careers. Fortunately, your player is able to bounce back and makes a name for himself on the streetball circuit. When he returns to college he regains his reputation as one of the best prospects in the country and is ready to join the NBA.
What makes The One so much fun is that it doesn't pretend to be ambitious or smart. It isn't a story of a person who has to face serious adversity in order to make a career in the NBA.
Yes, there is a friend/teammate here, but he's not annoying, nor is he even necessary for the story to continue. He's helpful in jump-starting your career back and might as well be gone after that.
There's no narrative that you must subject your player to and instead you just play the game, which in the end, is all that counts.
