Netflix's The Witcher: Why Jaskier Should Replace Triss In The Love Triangle
1. It Would Mean More Jaskier
Logically, if a character is one of the two central love interests of the protagonist, they are likely to show up a lot.
So, given the lack of chemistry between Geralt and Triss and how Jaskier is the best part of the show, him showing up more can only be a positive, and if that has to happen by Jaskier becoming one of Geralt's romantic interests, who am I to stand in the way of progress?
Added comic relief doesn't always equate to added quality, but in the case of The Witcher's dark, oppressive world, a little bit more would not go amiss, especially if it were taking the place of a fairly band character. Furthermore, despite Netflix's desperate attempts to brand The Witcher as its answer to Game of Thrones (it even being set to include actors from that show like Kristofer Hivju) Netflix has simultaneously been desperate in its attempts to differentiate its gritty, adult-oriented fantasy show from the HBO goliath. One way they could achieve this latter aim is by lightening the tone and including more Jaskier.
There's also the most important matter of them all: song. With more Jaskier, the most famous musician and poet on the Continent, there will inevitably be more of his work to enjoy. Just think of the possibilities - there will be more ballads, of course, but the romance with Geralt opens the gates for a wider variety of songs about the Witcher and friends (personally, I think a Yennefer diss track would be a great place to start) that could surpass even Jaskier's breakout hit, Toss A Coin To Your Witcher.
Okay, perhaps that last bit was a little far-fetched, but the rest seems like a flawless plan to me, and all the other fans of The Witcher franchise too, I'm sure.
