Nintendo NX: 9 New Rumours You Need To Know
4. The Console Will Use A “Polaris-Like” GPU
If you don't know what a Polaris GPU is, it's touted to be a revolutionary new graphics processing unit developed by AMD, one of the leading manufacturers in the industry. The hows and whys aren't particularly important – just know that such a GPU would likely make the NX the most powerful console on the market.
In fact, this custom GPU supposedly tips the NX into better hardware territory than the PS4, with the intention being to stay ahead of competition while also making it very easy for third party developers to port games to the system (the difficulty of which severely crippled the Wii U's software line-up).
One of the main features of the Polaris GPU is its ability to put out amazing performance using a considerably lower wattage, all while boasting a unit that is significantly smaller in size. What better way to prove this potential than to use the chip in, say, a controller capable of playing high-res games…?
