9. Amiibos

Amiibos found their way onto the Wii U and smashed all expectations with insane sales figures during 2015. In a period between April and September, the Amiibo range brought in $1.7 BILLION for the company, with 71% of those sales coming from outside of Japan.

The figures seem to strike a perfect balance between 'cool, quirky, left-field Nintendo thinking' and popular, mainstream markets. Each figure can be tapped to the Wii U controller and the character is then playable in-game. This idea is almost certainly going to be expanded with the NX, to the point where tapping figures onto a console could become the norm. Nintendo love interaction, and this is physical interaction being implemented in a subtle way.
