2. Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Will Be Huge (Literally & Figuratively)

To the surprise of nobody, the most popular game at the event was The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Despite Nintendo providing 16 systems to play the game, more than any other title, people still had to wait over an hour at times to get their turn.

When we finally got our hands on it, the immediate impression was that despite the grand scale, this is still the Zelda that we know and love. The landscape that we were able to explore was staggeringly vast, but like open world games such as Far Cry, there seems to be plenty to do to keep you occupied.

Weapons can be crafted, food can be cooked and items are, as ever, hidden away in handy chests. Link’s actions are always fluid and graceful, although more advanced actions such as wall climbing and swinging heavy weapons like a Woodcutter Axe we found deplete a Stamina Gauge, returning from Skyward Sword.

The signature light-heartedness of Zelda was shining through at the start of our demo, as an old man started to berate us for picking up a baked apple next to his campfire, before revealing that he was only doing so to amuse himself. He then proceeded to give us a history of Hyrule as it appears in this title, before giving us a quest that would eventually reveal the locations of several dungeons, each containing a trial.

Our limited time with the demo only served to whet our appetite for the full game, as there is clearly much to discover here. The art style is breathtaking, whether on TV or handheld mode, and this looks to be an adventure you can really sink your teeth into.
