"The Joy-Con are a nifty idea, though they don’t always work as well as I would’ve hoped. For starters, I simply haven’t found them very comfortable. I find that the buttons are oddly placed and the thumbsticks feel small and overly flippy...I spent several days playing Zelda with the Joy-Con combined onto the controller grip and while it was serviceable, I never got fully comfortable...For games you’d play on your TV, they’re a lackluster substitute for a full-sized, standard game controller." - Kotaku
"This Voltron-esque configuration won’t be beating Sony’s Dual Shock 4 any time soon, but it’s far more comfortable and functional than I imagined it would be from just looking at it. The smallish face buttons are sufficiently clicky and easy to hit, but the lack of a traditional D-pad or full-sized analog triggers will put it at a disadvantage for certain types of games...It’s easy enough to adjust to these tiny quirks, but even once I did, the Joy-Con never felt quite like home the way a great controller should." - IGN
"The Joy-Cons, when connected to the Switch, are...fine...They’re not quite what you would demand of a dedicated console controller, but they’re mostly close enough." - Polygon

The Joy-Con controllers have received a fairly mixed response so far, with many admitting that they found them more comfortable than they expected, but that they're still a poor substitute for a more uniform controller, especially during prolonged gaming sessions.

Thankfully, Nintendo does have a solution to this problem, but it comes at a cost...
