No Man's Sky: 15 Tips & Tricks The Game Doesn't Tell You

10. Grab Yourself A Pet

Amidst all the excitement surrounding No Man's Sky, amazingly little has been said of the fact that as of the Day One Patch for the game, you can adopt a pet in the game. Considering some of the wonderfully bizarre creatures that players have already been discovering, that's a tantalising prospect.

So long as the creature's not explicitly violent (use your Analysis Visor to scout it out first), you can be-pet it by feeding it 20 units of whatever it likes to eat (because apparently since Far Cry Primal, this is now how taming animals works in video games). You'll need to get up close to the creature, then hold Square to automatically feed it all 20 units of the necessary resource.

A smiley face icon should appear above the animal to notify you that it's now your buddy. It will follow you around, doing various things such as mining resources, defending you, and tracking down rare resources.

Who wouldn't want to grab themselves the cute thing pictured above, discovered by Reddit user octopusslayer? With that said, it doesn't look like it can handle itself in a fight... unless it breathes fire, or is electrified or something.
