Pokémon really is the gift that keeps on giving, for fans are just as passionate about the beloved Pocket Monsters today in 2019 as they were when the franchise first launched in 1995 - although the roots of Pokémon can actually be traced back as far as 1989. Almost immediately upon its initial release, the property became a global phenomenon and hasn't looked back since.

From video games, to card games, to TV shows, to movies, to comic books, and even a theme park, Pokémon has been a pivotal part of mainstream culture over the past 24 years and counting. And even now, this year saw Detective Pikachu getting a big-budget, Ryan Reynolds-headlined movie that yet again added fresh life to the Pokémon property and brought in even more new eyes for the franchise.

Key to the world of Pokémon, of course, are the actual Pokémon creatures and species that flesh out this world. The initial generation of Pokémon saw 151 different species of Pokémon, but by now that number clocks in at over 800 across seven generations.

How well do you know these species, though? Here, there are several species of Pokémon for you to identify - with only the biggest of Pokémon fans being able to get 100% on this quiz!
