PES 2021: 6 Early Rumours You Need To Know
4. A New Game Engine
The Fox engine has served PES well over the last 7 iterations. That said, 7 years is a very long time in video games. With the arrival of the next-generation Sony and Microsoft consoles, it is safe to expect a move away from the current engine.
It has been suggested that the Unreal 4 engine could power the next-gen vesions of PES. WIth the PES Mobile already using it, it's not too far fetched of an idea. The Unreal engine holds great potential, and with the development team having some familiarity with it, it seems to be a solid choice. With a new engine, comes many possibilities. Dynamic weather, improved player and ball physics, graphical improvements, and even a player focused 'morale system' have all been discussed online.
These changes are very much subject to the planned releases of the PS5 and Xbox One X, and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on PES' development. With the cancellation of E3, we will have to wait for developers to directly confirm which of the following rumoured changes will be implemented into the final game.
