PlayStation 4: 10 Ridiculous Rumours We Hope Aren't True

8. It Won't Be Called The PlayStation 4

It's long been known that the PlayStation 4 was initially code-named the Orbis, though it was reported near the end of last year that this moniker had apparently been dropped in favour of the name Thebes. Though usually one expects that these names are simply placeholder titles, rumours suggest that it's possible Sony may move away from the "tired" PS4 name and opt for something more in line with their handheld Vita range. Thus, we may end up seeing the PlayStation Orbis or PlayStation Thebes announced in a few weeks, though I have to say, the latter sounds absolutely horrible. What's wrong with lineage? That's the great thing Sony has over all the other platforms; there's a feeling of consistency, reliability and familiarity to the PlayStation brand that has been going on for almost 20 years now, and it would be a shame to throw that away. Thankfully, this seems to be purely rumour, and going forward it seems like it will probably still be named the PS4.
