PlayStation 4: 10 Ridiculous Rumours We Hope Aren't True

9. 4K Gaming

003 A persistent if insane rumour is that due to its AMD GPU and CPU technology, the PS4 may be capable of running graphical resolutions of up to 4096x2160, which is a significant leap from the current standard of 1920x1080. While in theory this sounds fantastic, it's somewhat irritating given that some of us have only had our current HDTVs for a few years, and having to buy a 4K to make the most of the imagery is simply not going to happen, given that consumer models are not only extremely scarce at the moment, but out of the price range of all but the most miserly oil baron. Though it's always great to enhance picture quality, how about focusing on the graphical standards themselves rather than double the resolution? 1080 gaming still looks absolutely stunning, and given that the film and TV industries won't be ready to move to wide 4K distribution for years and years, it would seem jumping the gun to already think about adopting it within the next 12 months.
