PlayStation 4: DualShock 4 Controller Officially Revealed

PS4controller Sony Entertainment officially unveiled the new controller for the PlayStation 4 at a New York press event last night, and it picks up where the DualShock 3 left off on the current generation of the console. Entitled the DualShock 4, the new controller features a touch screen panel, as was widely reported prior to its unveiling, and is very similar in design to its predecessor. The controller features several features known to gamers of old, such as the analogue sticks which were reported to have been removed from the design. The analogue sticks appear to feature an indentation or groove on the surface to provide the gamer with a greater sense of grip, whilst a grill in the middle allows for speaker functionality. The biggest new feature officially confirmed on the DualShock 4 is the "Share" button which is located at the corner of the controller and allows the user to upload up to 15 minutes of game footage to social media sites such as YouTube. The Share button was widely theorised to feature on the new controller, however was not featured in pre-announcement renderings and images purporting to show the DualShock 4, leading to speculation it might not be included. Another notable change to the controller is the removal of the time-honoured "Start" and "Select" buttons, but otherwise, fans will be pleased to know the DualShock era continues on the PlayStation 4.
