There's always a worry that when you buy a new platform, you won't be able to play the games you've grown to love on your old device, or more importantly that your game progress will be lost forever. The devastating thought of losing something like a save for GTA V is truly a first world problem. Sadly, so far Sony has had a pretty bad track record of remedying this issue. The currently PS4 has some backwards compatibility through PS Now, but doesn't just let you play your old PS3 games on PS4 outside of the paid-for emulator - the systems are fundamentally not compatible. If we pin together the rumours about the PS5 being diskless and the shift towards PS Now, then it would suggest that there could be no backwards compatibility from a disc perspective, but instead a full catalogue of titles available through streaming that would go from PS1 through to PS4. It would require a solid internet connection to work, which can be a tough call for some people, and even that most likely wouldn't take into account the fact you already own many of the titles in physical form. Sony could easily take a leaf out of Microsoft's book. The Xbox One allows users to insert a disc and the console will begin downloading the game to the hard drive, providing it's on an approved list of titles, of course. Even this is a step in the right direction, as the PS Now's cost is the biggest turn-off so far.
