PlayStation VR Details: Exclusive Interview With Sony's Dave Ranyard
From the first major game exclusive, to the idea of classic titles getting VR add-ons.
At EGX 2015, we went hands-on with Sonys combatant in the virtual reality wars, the PlayStation VR. Personally, for someone new to this whole 'VR' business, it felt like being warped into a whole new realm of gaming. After an intense car chase sequence set in the universe of The Getaway (producing a weird mixture of futuristic VR mechanics and early 2000s arcade shooter gunplay you can see below) and a harrowing horror experience in The Kitchen, we caught up with Dave Ranyard, Director of PlayStation VRs London studio to talk about what we can expect in the early days of such a groundbreaking headset. Among other things, we spoke with Ranyard about the games lineup, whether existing titles could have patched-in VR support, and whether maybe - just maybe - we might see a proper Getaway game designed specifically for the headset. Check out our exclusive interview with him below, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoqR5p-Xc7c The PlayStation VR was formerly known as Project Morpheus; a supremely cool-sounding moniker that sounded just as slick as the Oculus Rift, although now that marketing's had their shot at what'll catch on, it's the PlayStation VR for now. Let us know in the comments what you think of the demo footage, the new name, and if you're fully on board with all the VR hype!
