Pokémon: Ranking Every Gen 2 Video Game
2. Pokémon Gold & Silver
Pokémon Gold and Silver really made the series what it is today. Features that you can't imagine Pokémon without were first introduced here like breeding, the dark and steel type, Pokémon genders, friendship with your 'Mons, and shiny Pokémon.
Also, it's not even like everything present here was just improved upon in later entries, therefore making this game feel dated in comparison to later titles. There are features present here that are rarely if ever touched upon in the series again (minus the remakes of these games). They are still the only games where you can visit two regions and craft your own Pokéballs.
If anything the series went slightly downhill after Gold and Silver with Ruby and Sapphire being clear downgrades.
The games also introduced us to Johto, a mystical region full of mysteries to uncover and places to explore.
Finally, Gold and Silver introduced a lot of fan-favourite Pokémon, and unlike its predecessor, most of the creatures that originated here have aged really well.
There's Togepi and Pichu, mascots of the newly introduced baby mechanic. Other fan-favourites include Espeon, Umbreon, Ho-oh, Scizor, and Tyranitar. Oh, and everyone loves the starters Cyndaquil and Totodile - even if Chikorita is clearly the best out of the three and is really underappreciated.
