Pokémon: Ranking The 10 Best Gym Leaders
9. Crasher Wake
It feels like Crasher Wake deserves to be here just for his name alone. Easily the most evocative moniker of any gym leader, Crasher Wake more than lives up to his billing. His Mexican wrestler inspired design is fantastic too, especially when paired with his infectious enthusiasm.
It does sound a little bit like he just turns up to funerals uninvited, bit that’s besides the point.
He’s probably the most bombastic gym leader around, eschewing strategy and meticulous battling for out and out fun.
He encourages everyone not to take battling too seriously, and is a pillar of the community too, using his earnings to improve the town and help the less fortunate.
Defeating him also allows you to use Defog out of battle, so you can continue on unabated.
As for the battle itself, he definitely chooses those which fit his image. Gyarados, Quagsire and Floatzel all seem very fun to train, and the latter two particularly have a quite goofy image.
Those two also come with subpar stats, while Gyarados has nothing to offset his double weakness to Electric moves. A competitive team this certainly ain’t.
