Pokémon: Ranking The Starters Of All 6 Generations From Worst To Best

1. Froakie

So, if Charmander is so insanely popular, how wasn't it number one? The answer's simple, and anyone who opted for Froakie when they began their Kalos journey in X & Y will be able to tell it to you. Against allegations that Pokémon was getting tired in its old age, Froakie is a welcome addition.

As a battler Froakie and its evolutions present a rare opportunity. When it becomes Greninja, the Water Type is supplemented by a secondary Dark Type. Greninja is lightning fast and deadly with either ranged or physical attacks; send it into battle to highlight either of its typings and the combination of its stats and moveset will reward you.

Froakie is also an example of intelligent design. Too often in recent years has the jump from the appearance of the first stage to the final one been too difficult to trace (Oshawott to Samurott, for example). With this line it's easy to place the progression, and this awesome ninja frog even has a great signature move to suit its theming with Water Shuriken.

Still, what's ultimately most refreshing about Froakie and its evolutions is what it represents. This Pokémon proves that after six generations and twenty years of game development and creation, Game Freak and The Pokémon Company can still pull of some truly wonderful new ideas!
