Pokémon Switch: 10 Ways To Make The Best Pokémon Game Ever
7. Intuitive Difficulty
There's only so much satisfaction one can get from decisively crushing the squad of a novice Bug Catcher or Youngster. Sooner or later, the absence of challenge presented by the AI outside of an inevitable endgame bout with the Elite Four will start to grate.
It's a lingering problem that all too often makes even the most recent duo of games feel unnecessarily easy, especially on the front end, where your starter Pokémon can plow through the early competition without any backup. To date, only Black and White 2 have tinkered with difficulty by delivering different levels of toughness through its Key System, but there's room to improve.
Having the number of Pokémon a Trainer has in reserve rise and fall to match your own would be a terrific start, eliminating lopsided matches where the victor is determined before Poke Balls are even brandished. Game Freak could even go one step further and implement a system where every NPC gets tougher once the Elite Four has been toppled.
At least that way, all of those grunts you skipped on the way to the League wouldn't be utterly useless in the endgame.
