Pokemon Sword & Shield: Ranking Every Gym Leader

7. Milo

Milo does a lot of things right, so seventh place might seem a bit harsh. However, while he does things right, there’s not too much he really does great. He’s a solid gym leader to set the scene for Galar, but he doesn’t stand out all that much once you’ve met the rest.

His gym trial of rolling Wooloos into a pen is a nice fun intro to the mode, and despite Wooloo being a Normal type, feels a good choice for a Grass gym. It’s far less elaborate than most of the rest though (certainly the rest above him), and so Milo finds himself middle of the pack.

You spend a decent amount of time with him at the start, but there’s not really a story there at all. Instead, he’s more of an introduction to the gym mechanics, how Dynamaxing works in practise, and the general mission ahead of you, if the opening ceremony hadn’t made that abundantly clear.

It makes sense for Milo’s character, as a sweet but unassuming farmer, that he’s lost in the shuffle of the more eccentric characters. There’s definitely enough here for him to become some peoples’ favourite, but all things considered there’s still a few ahead of him.
