Pokémon Sword And Shield Expansion Packs: 10 Features Fans Demand

6. More Battle Modes

One of the Isle of Armor's biggest features is the Dojo. It's certainly a welcome addition, but Sword and Shield need more.

Console Pokémon games have largely been relegated to different battle modes. And many of those games are solid entries, but those features haven't carried over to the main series. Sword and Shield rode high on Dynamaxing and its integration in battle and the Wild Area.

The problem is that's really all there is to it. Rose's Tower only has single and double battle options. Outside of online competitions, there's little more to do than random online battles. The gym challenges are simple ways of spicing up the eight gym battles, but that system is feeling outdated. Having a theme for a gym leader is pleasing aesthetically, but it also means the trainer's team will be specialized to a couple of Pokémon on their team that hold type advantages.

Features like triple battles and rotation battles, especially the latter, can come off as gimmicky, but that shouldn't stop Nintendo from putting in something.

It doesn't even have to brand new, but at least look back through Pokémon Stadium, Coliseum, and Battle Royale to see what could be added from there. And speaking of Battle Royale, if Tetris can get its own battle royale mode, so can Pokémon.
