Pokemon X and Y: 8 Useful Tips To Keep In Mind

7. Mega Evolution, What's The Deal?

Seen that crazy new Mewtwo form? How about not one, but two alternate, beastly looking Charizards? They represent one of the trademark features of this generation, Mega Evolution. These evolutions are undeniably awesome, however there are several misconceptions floating around which I feel need addressing. First and foremost, these evolutions are not permanent, and can only be activated in battle. So not really an extra form, imagine an in-battle transformer, or going super saiyan for those DBZ fans. Not only is it limited to a battle setting, but only one chosen Pokémon can be upgraded per battle, and once you have picked said Pokémon, the decision sticks for the entire battle regardless of fainting. So adjust your ideal group with the knowledge you can't have a squad of Mega Pokémon knocking about at once. Also take into consideration that depending on which version (X or Y) you obtained, your mega evolutions may be different for particular Pokémon. X has the potential to change some Pokémon's types, such as Mega Mewtwo changing to Fighting/Psychic or Charizard's wicked Fire/Dragon. Conversely Y mega evolutions upgrade the stats of those Pokémon with a new looking form, rather than changing types.
