Underneath the story there is a very simple, poignant message: don't mess with nature. As the tentacle mutates after drinking toxic waste, it's clear that the whole ordeal wouldn't have happened if the toxic waste was not coming out from doctor Ed Edison's mansion in the first place.

Edison tries to solve the problem by killing both Tentacles, which is actually a typically human way to react to disaster - instead of taking responsibility for his actions and eliminating the cause, he wants to kill the outcome. He does not bother to cure the evil Tentacle, but wants to get rid of the problem altogether.

This is very telling about the human condition, especially now, as global warming is taking its toll.
