To the average player, custom button assignments are an easy way of making small changes, like those of you who switch the X button for 'O' when skipping cutscenes. But the ability to completely modify your controller is a liberating one, especially when it comes to those gamers who are physically impaired. For them, this is a godsend because it allows them to change the layout in a way that suits their particular needs, whether it's a lack of strength in one hand or limited movement altogether. Steve Spohn, COO of the AbleGamers charity, told Polygon that "with this update up to 70 million gamers with disabilities will have a higher quality of enjoying video games." Sony deserves a pat on the back for that alone.
