The most frequently-requested feature for the new consoles, and one that both the 360 and PS3 already had down-pat; custom wallpapers. Although you can tell this feature was removed so Sony could try and tempt you into dropping a few coins on a paid 'Premium Theme', the Internet Explorer functionality of the console is still present - and was something many PS3 owners used to update their backgrounds regularly outside of this. Hell, due to the PS3's OS being easily modded and open to customisation, there were many tailored sites across the late noughties that specialised in offering up full game-specific themes, complete with unique icons, colour schemes and sound effects. All that has been taken away at the moment as Sony focus on more initially impressive-sounding things like Share Play or custom button-mapping, but that only reinforces the point; such a simple feature should've been included since day one. Lastly, to reinforce the overall approach of "Buy now, scream questions later", the only idea you have of what a purchasable theme is going to look like is through a thumbnail inside the PlayStation Store window. Why not give us a fake boot-up animation (if the theme comes with a unique sound effect) alongside being able to flick between menus for a small period of time, so we can get a better idea what we're downloading, be a theme free or otherwise. What feature would you hope to see added to the PS4 Slim when it inevitably releases and the UI hopefully gets an overhaul? Let us know in the comments!
