The message each company wanted to illustrate differed greatly but both messages shaped their entire conferences. Sony aimed their conference at gamers; it was directed at both those they lost at the start of the seventh generation and those whove stayed with them. The message was clear, were a gaming company, heres our newest gaming system and heres the games you can play. Microsoft went a much different route, they want the Xbox One to be the centre of the living room. Games seemed second on Microsofts agenda, behind apps and entertainment features. This is exactly what a lot of gamers didnt want with the next Xbox, a system devoted to entertainment as opposed to games. On the other hand, Microsoft are attempting to put an Xbox One in every living room, they appealed to sports fans, social-media fiends and those who love TV and movies (basically everyone). The problem with this approach is that many of these features wont be available outside the US, at least for a while. Also many of these features require internet connections, which as we know not everyone is keen on. Both companies had a very specific message in mind, for Microsoft that was; we want to be your entertainment hub, and if youre so inclined, a gaming system. Sonys message was; buy a PS4 if you want to play games and socialise with other gamers. Two wildly different approaches but both got their message across and left us wanting more. Which message hit home with you depends on the kind of gamer you are, for hardcore gamers I cant see how anyone could argue against Playstation 4 (who aimed at developers, gamers and showed exclusive games), for casual gamers and entertainment Xbox One is a juggernaut (bringing in star power, talking movies, TV and sport and showing the biggest casual games there are). Regardless of how you feel its undeniable that Excitement for E3 has maybe never been higher.
What did you think of both conferences and the future of the systems? Do you agree or disagree with what Ive said? What do you see happening or being announced at E3? Sound off in the comments below!
